Slate Lite is a new and exciting innovative product which is taking the design world by storm. It combines magnificent, timeless slates of India, South Africa and Brazil with cutting edge German technology to produce a light, flexible, paper thin slate veneer which offers the beauty of natural stone without the burden of weight.
Slate Lite is made from natural stone; so colors, textures and patterns vary ~ no two pieces will ever be exactly the same. The uniqueness of each piece is part of the attraction of a natural product such as stone.
Slate Lite can be used for a diverse range of architectural and decorative projects - on horizontal, vertical or curved surfaces - in both interior and exterior applications. Slate Lite’s uses are only limited by your imagination.
Slate Lite can be used to decorate and enhance furniture which would otherwise require a thick stone insert. Used with back lighting Stone Lite can create extra exciting dimensions in design.
Slate Lite consists of a veneer of slate laminated onto a fiberglass substrate. This can either be fixed to flat surfaces, or gently bent inward or outward to produce the look of solid stone on columns and rounded surfaces. A tiled effect can also be created by leaving a grout joint between cut pieces of Slate Lite.
Slate Lite can be sealed in the same manner as most slates or stone tiles, giving a longer and harder wearing surface. Like most stone, Slate Lite acts as a UV inhibitor and will resist high sun conditions for years. It will handle both high temperature and freezing without cracking. It may be applied to MDF, foam board, melamine, concrete, brick, block, drywall, plywood, acrylic and other plastic sheeting.
Please note: we do not recommend the use of Slate Lite for flooring or countertop applications due to the thinness of the stone veneer.
Slate Lite is supplied in 1200mm x 600mm sheets. The sheets can be cut to desired size with either metal shears or standard masonry or diamond saw blades.
